The birth of Reiki is thought to have begun in Tibet several thousand years ago.
Some visionaries, studied energies and developed a system of symbols and sounds for the healing universal. From various systems of healing, that cross different cultures, emerged from this single root system. Unfortunately, the original source has been forgotten. Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator in Kyoto, Japan, rediscovered the path of the system in mid to late 1800. He studied for twenty years the phenomena of healing of the greatest spiritual leader. He also studied ancient sutras (Buddhist teachings written in Sanskrit). He discovered ancient sounds and symbols that are connected directly to the human body and nervous system which activate the universal life energy for healing. Usui then underwent a metaphysical experience and had the right to use these sounds and symbols to heal. He called this form of healing, "Reiki", which has taught throughout Japan until his death about 1893. The tradition has passed through several grandmasters of reiki such as Dr. Chujiro Hyashi, Hawayo Takata, and Phyllis Lei Furumoto. There are many forms of Reiki practiced now. The two main ones are: "the Usui System of Natural Healing" and "Radiance Technique". The Usui System of Natural Healing, firm and strengthen the body energy, promotes the ability to heal itself.
Reiki was introduced to the Western world in the mid-1970. Since then its use has spread dramatically throughout the world.
The other story of Reiki
For the main purpose of the Usui Reiki was not only the healing of diseases, because, rather the strengthening of all the natural talent available, the balance of mind, health of body and thus achieve self-realization.
